I remember this film being promoted and hyped because it was one of the early Netflix films which was being made by a big time director. Paul Greengrass is an excellent director who has almost perfected the visual presentation of making a movie feel like a documentary in a sense. These docudramas feel more grittier and realistic than your average big budget film. His work on the Bourne series is fantastic, United 93 is an excellent and sad film, and overall, he’s made some really great films. But I feel like there’s a lot lacking here. 22 July is still a very solidly made movie in terms of the technicality, but I feel like the emotional and dramatic impact I felt in United 93 is severely lacking here. And also, I could sense this film was almost being pushed more for awards consideration in comparison to United 93. But yeah, its still a well made movie, but one that is on the side of average than good for a top tier director.
