See more Henry D @Henry_Domke 2d A rich and subtle family drama about a man with two families, and the two women who meet only after his death and must cope with an intense mixture of grief, anger, jealousy, and betrayal. The cultural mix makes the story even more interesting, with a Pakistani husband, an English wife, and a French partner. Joanna Scanlan was outstanding as the English wife, conveying a great deal with very little dialogue. I rated it down slightly because parts of the ending felt too slow and drawn out. The only weakness in the plot is that a man who had two different families in neighboring countries appears not to have locked his cellphone with a passcode so, when he died unexpectedly his wife in England discovered about his partner in France. More surprises follow. There is slow but steady progression of the narrative until the very last scene. The widow played by Scanlan is presented as a complex human being who adjusts nimbly to the circumstances as she is trying to navigate this new universe that was presented to her. None of the unusual elements, the fact for example that the heroine is an English woman who converted to Islam, have any gimmicky element. Wisely, the characters speak their native language, although English of course unites all. Flashbacks are totally avoided except some home movies and recorded audio messages. Very, very good!
