Former toy maker Sam Mullins and his wife, Esther, are happy to welcome a nun and six orphaned girls into their California farmhouse. Years earlier, the couple's 7-year-old daughter Annabelle died in a tragic car accident. Sometimes a creepy-looking doll is just a creepy-looking doll and no amount of repetition can make the sweet old song You Are My Sunshine even the slightest bit scary.

For the first two acts, while Annabelle: Creation concerns itself with little girls checking under beds and investigating things that go bump in the night, it's equal to James Wan's Conjuring films.

Actually an 8/10. 87/100 Originally a 9/10. 93/100 Rewatched w/ gf Chloe Lainhart at home for our Conjuring Universe watch through for Halloween. Chloe: 8.4/10 Initially a 7/10 bc she “doesn’t like dolls”.

I enjoyed this one more than a lot of the conjuring universe movies. Had a decent story and good characters. Has a creepy atmosphere and some good scares. 3rd place for me in the franchise behind conjuring one and two

It is an interesting chapter when considering the entire trajectory of this universe, but viewed as a standalone film, it is quite ordinary, featuring basic jump scares and foolish character decisions. The mother character is underutilized, as is the father, who dies quickly. I also find the attempt to tie the ending to the beginning of the other film to be a bit of a stretch in terms of logic.
