Somehow this visually looks the worst of the trilogy. The acting and characters are the weakest too, excluding Jeffrey Combs who is excellent as always. Except for the great new version of the theme music during the opening, the music is weak as well. At least the dialogue quality sounds excellent. It has such a strong concept with disappointing execution. The chaos of the lunatics taking over the asylum was disappointingly unchaotic. There are some really fantastic practical gore effects, but the digital effects have not aged well. It’s entertaining but far from a classic, stick to the first two and skip this one as it’s a bit dubious. Very disappointing ending, really lacked a conclusion or coherence. It probably leaned too heavily into the comedy side to cover the other flaws. Ultimately I think I blame the direction for the drop in quality compared to the previous.
