Usually, a kid in an adult’s body would try to act mature to blend in, but Josh just lets his 'inner child' run wild. It’s a bit over-the-top compared to other body-swap flicks from the 80s and 2000, but...It’s still a heartwarming watch after all, there’s a kid in all of us. 😊. Tom Hanks has this boyish charm that saves the movie from its own clichés, and his transition into the adult world later on feels super grounded. Honestly, looking at the current crop of A-listers in their 30s, I can’t imagine a single one of them nailing this role today, with this level of sincere innocence. It’s a classic for a reason. It's a shame they don't make more family-friendly movies like this movie. The concept of the film was original. There are so many films since then that have tried the same concept. I'm a Jersey girl so I love that a lot of this film was filmed in Cliffside Park New Jersey. The part where Josh is playing the piano keyboard with his boss at FAO Swartz is classic. Tom Hanks was perfect for the role of Josh because he's a kid at heart. In the '80s they made so many fun family friendly movies. This is definitely one of them. I believe this movie to be something beautiful, about a boy named Joshua, who was once a rundown teenager, getting magic from a fortune tellers turning into a grown adult for a while (portrayed by TOM HANKS). In the movie, we do get some iconic moments, such as playing the floor piano in the toy shop & James Caan was there. Didn't you used to love James Caan? What Joshua had in his own space where there were so many toys for the playground. It proves that an adults lifestyle does not have to grow up. A lot of characterizations were loveable too - I hope that his BFF was always recognising him & still being the same old person. And although they were the wrong age, I loved that chemistry between Joshua & Susan. What was also good is that Joshua was aware of his age & had to warn Susan, it is a good moment when a character stays true to themself. It slightly reminds me of "Jack Frost" from 1998 - & "Big" is double superior to that.
