…If Superbad was about how difficult it is to cause mischief, Blockers is much more interested in the suppressive efforts of the parents than the teenagers themselves…an easy watch, full of crude slapstick, but with it’s heart in the right place…

Blockers has plenty to like, especially the chemistry between John Cena, Leslie Mann, and Ike Barinholtz. Each brings a different kind of parental panic, and the movie works best when their fear, embarrassment, and overreaction keep escalating. Cena is the biggest surprise. His physical size and emotional sensitivity create a great comic contrast, and he commits fully to being the overly protective dad who is much softer than he looks. Mann brings nervous, controlling mom energy, while Barinholtz adds a messier, more insecure kind of humor. The daughters’ side of the story helps the movie feel more balanced. Kathryn Newton, Gideon Adlon, and Geraldine Viswanathan are not just plot devices; their friendship and choices matter. The sex-positive angle is smart, but the comedy is uneven. Still, Blockers is funny in places and better-hearted than expected.

Teen sex comedy from the perspective of the parents. John Cena is outstanding in his comedic role as he pretty much always is. Definitely worth watching!
