The first 30 minutes of The Naked Gun is funnier, but as a whole, this movie takes my vote. The first five minutes made me question why I decided to watch this, but the remaining runtime was entertaining as hell. The characters are pretty well-written, but the main positives of the writing are the situations, the story and the dialogues. The cinematography is good and the pacing is great. The casting is perfect. Nick Mohammed is great, while I'd watch Bryce Dallas Howard in anything and Orlando Bloom was just absolutely hilarious. Paddy Considine is slowly becoming one of my favourite actors. I discovered him last year through MobLand, and just before this I saw him in The World's End. Three different improv actors get recruited to go undercover to expose a drug dealing operation. One is a method actor who takes his roles very seriously. The other is a competent improv teacher who is ambitious for greater success. And the third is a newcomer that just wants friends. They all work off each other very well and lead to some absurd and funny situations. Likewise, the two detectives, Dawes and Beverly, have some great jokes. Sean Bean and Ian McShane help give ground to the comedy in a gritty reality. Like all comedies, whether the jokes land depend on your tolerance for silliness. But overall, I say give this one a watch.
