De la Tour H @RT67236260 Jun 28, 2026 Quite simply THE BEST FILM EVER MADE. From the title and the title music to the same music at the end... and everything in between, this is as good as it gets. The scene near the end, where she cannot fire the second shot, is every bit as good as the famous scene from Casablanca and, I'd argue, better. (For this scene has a bitter and heart-wrenching twist!) But there are dozens of scenes in this film that are top top drawer. The pacing, the music, the lighting, the acting, the script. As for the stars: Barbara Stanwyck is SUPERB. In her best ever role. Fred MacMurray - never one of my favourite actors - is also SUPERB. And, as if all that wasn't enough, Edward G Robinson also gives one of his best ever performances in a supporting role. I have seen this film over a dozen times. This movie is an example of true Noir cinema where the characters are always so good at being bad. Noir is my favorite genre because most major characters spill their guts at least once in every scene. The dialogue alone is a masterclass example of perfect writing. Two flawed, greedy people find each other and hatch a plot to kill an unlikeable innocent victim. The deeper they dig the hole for themselves the worse they feel. That is exactly how good Noir ought to be. Double Indemnity is from a time we cannot go back to, but can revisit a little when we watch this movie.
