Ben B. @Boldbravebigbenbrown Mar 9 An underrated horror/sci-fi/creature-feature in my irrelevant opinion. I think Dreamcatcher is the product of an interesting, quasi-unique story, with engaging, fun-to-root-for characters, dedicated and sharp production, and a tech-meets-practical effects approach to visuals that keep this in the neighborhood of an Alien/Independence Day/The Thing feature for me. While some parts seem to meander a little, and even a few missing their mark, overall it feels like a natural unfolding of the central twist that leaves me feeling satisfied. One of the most underrated King adaptations in my book and a fun, funny, freaky, silly, serious, and slither-y 2hrs that I think y'all have been too hard on! Honestly I think Kasdan and Goldman should have largely ignored the book's structure and found a different path through this concept. If the movie is worth remembering for anything (besides the liberal use of Star Wars Wipes!) its for the strange casting swap with Morgan Freeman as the insane military leader and Tom Sizemore as the soldier convinced to do the right thing. Well worth watching See more Hughe J @Hughe Oct 3 Dreamcatcher was released in 2003 and is based on a novel of the same name written by Stephen King. It has a great cast starring Morgan Freeman, Thomas Jane, Jason Lee, Damian Lewis, and Timothy Olyphant. It's a story of friends who while hunting in the woods come across people that are infected by alien parasites. The military arrives to contain the outbreak but an alien called Mr. Gray takes over the mind of one of the party so that he can infect the world's water supply. The group must band together with an old friend from their childhood, whom they share a telepathic link with, to stop the aliens. I read the book before I saw this in the theatre and for the most part it stayed true to the source material but the ending, and the origin of their childhood friend, were changed. The cast is good, the CGI is fine, and the new ending was acceptable. It was a bit gross, and the movie dragged on at times, but overall it wasn't as bad as the reviews claimed. If you like Stephen King then you'll probably like this movie. See more Read all reviews
