Saffron S @SaffronSugar Feb 1 If you like Gothic horror, then you may find it enjoyable, I watched it because I like Gothic horror but I found the film irritating. The leading lady and her boyfriend were very unlikable characters. I found myself rooting for the baddies. I know it was supposed to be a metaphor for society and class etc. I tried to remember that so that I could finish watching it. Because, on the surface, the characters are irretrievably ridiculous. The plot is explained mostly in a monologue by the Butler at the end, but it still leaves a lot of holes. Why is the heroine so stupid? When she finds out the information why doesn’t she just play it down, leave when she gets the chance and go directly to the police? Why did the Butler never go to the police? Why did the leading lady never tell her boyfriend of her weird life before the accident? How did it happen that they just employed psychopathic staff? Is the metaphor that deep? I should first say that this one actually begins rather well, as a couple who’ve experienced a motorcycle accident move into the wife’s country home where all is not as it seems. Sadly, it begins to fly off the rails during its mid-section when characters we don’t really know or care about start to do things that don’t make sense. The actors are fine and the location is appropriately creepy, but the second half is not only baffling but just plain stupid. It wasn't Callum's fault about the crash, it was the other driver who shouldn't have overtaken and caused the crash plus the girl was goading him to go faster. The fact that the boyfriend left his girlfriend in that house with those strangers is messed up. They must have offered him some a lot of money so that they could keep her there. The treatment from the strangers was horrid. The part when that guy raped that lady and got her pregnant was f'ed up. She found out that her mom killed herself. The whole movie was just bizarre.
