The second entry in the long-running horror series focuses on a group of teenage would-be counselors converging on Camp Crystal Lake for training under the tutelage of head counselor Paul (John Furey). Inevitably, Paul relates the story of Jason Voorhees (Warrington Gillette), a boy who ostensibly drowned at the camp and whose mother murdered a group of counselors in revenge. No one takes the tale seriously until a very much alive Jason begins gruesomely eliminating people.

Does it hold up to modern day slashers? Yes and no. In a sense it does because it knows that it’s a movie about a maniac killing people in interesting ways, and its focus is on setting up those kills.

Part 2’s attempt to have a stronger final girl than the original is a mild success, but the film still lacks an interesting plot. The suspense is undercut by neutered kills and a lack of consistent focus on its characters.

Secuela aceptable, en mi opinión es mejor que su antecesora, por tener un ritmo de más balanceado, un villano más amenazante (aunque su diseño definitivo no llegaría sino hasta la tercera entrega), y una final girl muchísimo más competente e inteligente. Se suele infravalorar demasiado a esta entrega solamente porque no aparece la icónica máscara de hockey, pero merece una oportunidad, es de las entregas más decentes, sólidas y digeribles de la saga.

This movie isn't that bad. Scary? Not really. But the story of pretty good. It helps to unfold the story of Jason Voorhees and that helps it out a lot.

Synopsis
