And how their relationship evolves through the film. As a kid, I understood Max wanting independence and feeling like Goofy just didn’t get him. Watching it now with my own kids, I understand Goofy too, and some of those scenes really get to me. It’s difficult realizing your kids are growing up and learning when to let go. Still one of my go-to movies at 40, and the soundtrack still holds up. Great for all generations. The eponymous nature boosts the enjoyable comedy under retained signature, which was criticized for lack thereof without noting it is rather balanced with the vulnerably surfaced emotional core that honestly could have been written better, regardless of the moderately designated communication. What truly aligned the thematic heart is the performances from Jason Marsden excelling Max’s role similarly linked to coming-of-age classics’ starring teens, which positions Bill Farmer in not only also excelling Goofy’s emotional circumstances but brings more comfort and sympathy than the parental roles in those categorized classics, especially with seldom gravitas.
