Michel V @RT44160539 Jan 6 Was watching the whole Hannibal series over the weekend and this was the last one. Overall it starts interesting with the kids, but then the adult actor of Hannibal didn't have the physical look of Sir Antony Hopkins, so the whole movie kinda felt off, as he was a more masculine figure than the refined Hannibal persona that Sir Antony Hopkins played. The actor was more of an action figure than the brainy Hannibal we got used to from the previous movies. An other weird thing was how this became a typical fight the stupid Communist-Nazi-bad-guys, which again missed the refinement from a movie like Silence of the Lambs. In retrospect it's also weird how those baddies were framed as brutes, sure, but then Hannibal is a whole lot of degrees worse ... which it seemed we should have applauded ... a more villainous person then the Nazi's being the hero? I get the point but for this vandetta but this Hannibal-actor did not have the refinement for enough contrast between ‘good & evil’. As a viewer, I expected to see Hannibal’s feelings of revenge and pain in certain scenes. Yet, almost the entire movie felt bland. The worst part is that the portrayal of 'emotionlessness' did not resemble real psychopathology. Instead, it felt like someone who has never encountered a true psychopath attempting to imagine how one would behave. See more Cleve H @RT57860991 Apr 29 It is a shame that Gaspard Ulliel's life was cut so short. He plays the role of Hannibal Lecter in a way that truely shows where the madness and callousness of the character come from. The movie is more horror than thriller, unlike Silence of the Lambs, Red Dragon, and Hannibal. Of course it is also not police procedural like Manhunter. The movie is pure evil and I love it. Understanding what made the monster was riveting and Gaspard does a fantastic job in a way that is almost erotic. Rhys Ifans is a fantastic villain and shows off why he plays a villain so well.
