See more Noah L @PilgorOfSanAngora Aug 10, 2026 I like King Kong, I really do, but I think this movie screwed things up. I didn't match the original 1933 movie or even one from 2005. Now, I do think it's cool they made this movie Vietnam War themed, and the movie also has some good action scenes (Like the Helicopter Ambus, or the big Skullcrawler fight) and the movie does have a really great cast (Tom Hiddleston, Brie larson, Samual L. Jackson, and more), but the problem is most of the characters are either forgettable, undeveloped, or just make very dumb decisions. The plot feels very rushed and only exist as an excuse for all the CGI heavy action sequences there are. This movie tries to give Kong a bit of a backstory, but its only a very few times they mention and that's it. He's just this giant anti-hero ape. It would be crazy if they would be able to make ANOTHER good King Kong movie remake, but this movie sadly proves it is very hard too. It would be pointless to write anything about the script, character development or the miscast Samuel Jackson - "Kong: Skull Island" is designed as a nice way to pass the time and works quite well as such. See more Christian R @RT90248046 Jul 28, 2026 6.9/10 There's plenty to like about this movie as it technically has the best direction and cast of the Monsterverse. It also has a lot of fun set pieces and action scenes to help keep everyone entertained. Heck, even the monsters feel much livelier here than in 2014. It's just that the plot swings back and forth on whether it wants goofy comedy and a surprisingly vicious/serious tone and violence (I am usually not a stickler for that kind of thing, but it sticks out here).
