Chris S @Medicnco17 Jan 8 I went into Let Us Pray expecting a quiet character piece and came away moved and unsettled in the best way. The film’s slow-burning intensity is carried by powerful, naturalistic performances that make every small gesture feel loaded with meaning. Visually, the landscapes and careful framing create an atmosphere that’s at once intimate and slightly menacing, perfectly matching the story’s emotional rhythms. The screenplay balances restraint and heart: it trusts the audience, letting silences and looks do much of the work while delivering moments of genuine emotional payoff. Direction and pacing never overplay the hand, so the film lingers in your mind after the credits roll. If you appreciate thoughtful, character-driven cinema with a strong sense of place, Let Us Pray is well worth your time. A stranger shows up in town and all hell breaks lose. The small town police station is full of unlikely psychos with a lot of secrets to hide. Simple enough story, ending was a bit strange though. See more 02/21/2022 I found Let Us Prey to be an above average horror thriller. Liam Cunningham and Pollyanna McIntosh lead a strong cast. The plot is dark and interesting if a bit convenient/contrived. More coherence in the story and more from Cunningham's "number 6" character would have been welcome. Otherwise worth a watch. See more prawnda s @RT72497680 02/08/2022 this starts out seeming like a great premise, but is pretty shallow and relies on escalating violence/chaos to close off the plot. it gives away all of it's twists very early on, yet still tries to pull them out as a reveal for dramatic effect later, in some cases using multiple less than subtle flashbacks before and after a character verbally explains the event. some of the sfx are good, some are pretty bad, and the action choreography is pretty heavy handed/corny. something that bothered me: it was impossible to tell the two female leads apart for the majority of the film unless they were standing next to each other. there were many flashbacks throughout the film which made it very confusing when two events were depicted happening at once - the first time we see the second girl, it looks like a flashback or forward of the same girl having sex in the car as in the precinct until the second girl walks through the door. the actresses don't even look similar IRL, but the hair and makeup people did a very bad job of making them look distinct, as well as dim lighting exacerbating the issue. this doesn't really ruin the movie for me, but every time they are shown together i have to do a double take and ask myself which one i was just watching in the previous shot. this is not really anything as good as what the critic reviews are saying - certainly not a masterpiece. i don't feel that i wasted my time, but it's not really very deep or nuanced. SFX were hit or miss, gunshot wounds and blood splatters looked incredibly fake like they had cheaped out by diluting the stuff with water. in one shot a woman is supposed to be hit in the back with a shotgun, but she turns too early and the pack in her shirt clearly goes off at the wrong angle, but they kept the shot anyways. she basically gets shot in the side, the wound appears in the center of her back, and the blood comes out at a 90 degree angle from the shot's trajectory. later on the wound is in her lower side around her right kidney, making it seem like they changed the location to suit the earlier mistake, but bizarrely still didn't maintain continuity.
