It should’ve been in the pantheon of ’80s campy, over‑the‑top horror/sci‑fi flicks, with a long franchise and piles of toy collectibles as legacy. Yet… subpar casting, mediocre script, and you’d think Hooper could do much better—much. I only wish Patrick Stewart had been given a bigger role; maybe then the film wouldn’t be so forgettable. As it stands, it lives on mostly in the memory of every guy who was a teenager back then, thanks to Mathilda May and the generosity of all involved... Bless them. Yes, there is a healthy amount of nudity, but it’s not used in a deviant or perverse way. I found that the story, while being a bit campy and uneven at times, was certainly original. It’s just so… different and interesting. Mathilda May, the primary lead ‘space vampire’ is captivating, not because she’s nude in almost the entire film, but because she plays a sympathetic character. She’s both a beautifully mesmerizing and deadly predator, but isn’t malicious or malevolent. The effects are pretty good overall, especially with John Dykstra (of Star Wars fame) at the helm. Overall a good movie. Weird? Yes, but worth a watch. See more Read all reviews
