A quirky, overly possessive single woman (Kyra Sedgwick) is taken aback by her young son Paul's (Dominic Scott Kay) growing independent streak. After unsuccessfully trying to strengthen their bond by taking the boy on vacation, Emily returns home and enrolls him in school. TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch Aug 28, 2026 Loverboy is a very strange and intense movie. It follows a mother who desperately wants a child but struggles to have one for many reasons. When she finally becomes a mother, she becomes extremely protective and controlling, to the point where she doesn’t want anyone else around her child. She eventually takes one of the most devastating steps a parent could ever take involving their own child. I won’t reveal what happens because I don’t want to ruin the film, but I will say that her behavior becomes incredibly disturbing. If you’ve ever known an extremely controlling parent, this movie takes that behavior to another level. I thought the entire cast was incredible, and I especially enjoyed the smaller moments with Sandra Bullock. Even her brief appearance brought a little extra star power to the film. Ultimately, Loverboy is uncomfortable, emotional, and sometimes difficult to watch, but that’s also what makes it memorable. I love Kyra Sedwick and Kevin Bacon though. Sedwick plays a helicopter mother to her son, she has flashbacks to her creepy childhood a movie to see at your own will.
