Certainly, for the first hour, my eyes were popping out of my head and my mouth was aghast. 😱 I found the last half hour, which is meant to be the most disturbing part of the film, probably the weakest part of it. Much ado about nothing. Martyrs solidifies, more than any other film, how superior French horror movies are in comparison to their Hollywood counterparts. Nobody does horror better. Au revoir ! Few films are this relentless or confrontational.From start to finish it barely pauses — the constant suffering becomes exhausting to sit through, and because there’s no real relief, the film eventually blurs into pure ordeal. After a while you stop engaging with the story and just endure what’s happening on screen. Once the impact fades, there’s little left.
