However, I think the viewer should do as the characters in the movie and not be too caught up on that. I would argue that Megalodon (Thomas 2018) is rather a movie in the tradition of Paths of Glory (Kubrick 1957) and Apocalypse Now (Coppola 1979). It lays bare the fragility of any leadership that is concentrated to a single person. In the two opening scenes, both the Russian and the US commander forcefully establish an inflexible line of command. The rest of the movie is a string of (more or less interlinked) situations illustrating poor management and even worse decision-making from all people in a leadership position. Further to its credit, this movie also shows how subjects can have a strong sense of loyalty even towards an obviously flawed leader, especially when this leader is challenged by a rival. However, most rewarding is the unacknowledged cameo of a dolphin after about 1 hour and 10 minutes. He could at least have cleaned himself up with a haircut for the part, but no. Dominic Pace was almost as poor as the Captain of the Ship. Not one character was interesting.
