See more cwm9 T @RT00927578 6d Best watched at 2x-3x normal speed, this film is a total slog otherwise. Is it remarkable for its era? I'm sure. Does that make it actually entertaining for a modern audience? No. The moral of the story ranks on the absurd --- that the only thing that keeps an oligarchic society from being a problem is a lack of heart for the working class. So long as the uber rich love the working destitute, there's no problem with keeping the two classes separate. The scenes are more like elongated moving photos than actual scenes. People move about in repetitious ways in many of the scenes, not actually going anywhere or doing anything, but using their body motions to convey a feeling for the scene. Long stretches go by with the actors "talking" to each other, yet no dialog to explain what they are saying but for a sentence or two occasionally. It's hard to believe this film is separated from Gone With the Wind by only 12 years. See more Albert G. @RT62941283 Mar 30 Tremendous technical achievement, but a bit of a narrative shamble. See more Par H @Parhwy Mar 2 This 99-year-old film is exhausting even though I watched it from the comfort of my couch on a wet, dreary day. Thankfully I watched it on free-to-air telly which had ad breaks. And I'm say this after only 30 minutes; there's still two hours to go. The music; the make-up; the acting; the story; the plot; even the drudging walking of the workers in exhausting; the jodhpurs; the occult and religious imagery. I watched the 153min ‘remastered’ 2008 version (includes the Buenos Aries footage). Without audio for dialog, this film is more dance and sign language. The text cards help however they are infrequent. I have praise for the editing. Hoboy, how in 1927 did they get more than one film onto the screen let alone many more, or the stop-motion vehicles, or the painting/real mixes. So many scenes are ludicrous: particularly looking at you rich bois simping for Robomaria (I laughed hard at those scenes). Rewatch? No. Recommend? No. See more Read all reviews
