What to Know

Critics Consensus

A self-aware slugfest that plays directly to those who know the difference between Fatalities and Babalities, Mortal Kombat II may not be a flawless victory but it's likely the most roundly enjoyable entry in the franchise yet.

Audience Says

Karl Urban as Johnny Cage alone is worth the price of admission in this second installment of Mortal Kombat, a gleefully gory victory that delivers faithful lore and bone-crunching fatalities.

The film, despite its end-of-the-world stakes, lacks urgency. I found it to be a waste of time. Go to Full Review

If [this] sounds suspiciously like the set-up to Galaxy Quest, that’s because it is -- minus the humour and satisfyingly developed characters. Go to Full Review

Ultimately, Mortal Kombat II delivers visceral spectacle but limited dramatic weight, racing toward a finale that feels hollow and dissipates quickly once the noise and carnage fade. Go to Full Review

The entire ensemble brings it with memorable performances by Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn and Adeline Rudolph as Kitana. An incredibly fun addition to the Mortal Kombat film franchise. Go to Full Review

Hyper-faithful to the game. Completely unbothered by narrative depth. Make of that what you will. Go to Full Review

I need these films to pick a lane. Either commit to being a silly Mortal Kombat movie or commit to the tonal poignancy it sets up in the opening minutes, but the attempt to do both is pretty absurd. Go to Full Review

Konnor 1h Loved it and the accurate game references! See more TJ 2h This movie did everything we wanted the first one to do. Taking the focus off of Cole Young made him a more likable character. The stakes were high. I do think Bi-Han was underutilized and should’ve been given more but the movie had enough antagonists. Casting was strong with the introduction of new characters. The fight choreography was perfect this time. CGI was noticeable though. See more Amber 5h They listened to the fans and had more fatalities! It was awesome See more Daniel 9h story line was bad ending was bad only thing that saved it was Kano See more Daisy 12h It was really funny and entertaining, one little scene that got my eyes rolling was when Sonya Blade was trying to set lose Kitana and she was crawling for 15 mins. Johnny Cage did a great job at being funny, serious, and fought really well See more Ashanti P 13h Just as good as the last one! Picked up right where it ended See more Read all reviews
