Old friends Wallace (Wallace Shawn) and Andre (Andre Gregory) haven't seen each another in five years and agree to meet for dinner. Andre, a once well-known theater director, dropped out of the New York scene to travel the world, while Wallace stuck around, finding only mixed success as a playwright. As they sit down to eat, Andre launches into a series of fantastic stories from his time away, and Wallace can't help but notice how different their worldviews have become.

The film seems slow and static at first, then the conversation starts to heat up and you are completely absorbed in it until the end! The difference in nature of the two former friends is perfectly depicted, as well as the difference in ideas about what life should be like.

Total self indulgent garbage. Felt for the actor who sits there listening to this endless soliloquy and he is scripted to be more and more entranced. Andre finds himself ever so fascinating and avantgarde, in the movie and presumably in real life, but is in fact a boring and monotone storyteller. What mass hypnosis is behind the high rating it has received? The $15,000 it garnered in box office receipts speaks volumes.

Get through the beginning and the conversation picks up and becomes so much more interesting! It’s a wonderfully thought provoking film that invokes the desire to live meaningfully and presently. It’s worth more than one watch to truly ponder points brought up in the conversation.
