Chris S @Janomi Jun 25 Nerve is built around a clever premise that has only become more relevant with time. An online game where people risk money, safety, and privacy for internet fame feels surprisingly prophetic in the age of influencers and viral challenges. Directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman keep the pace brisk with stylish visuals, energetic editing, and escalating suspense that make the film consistently entertaining. Emma Roberts and Dave Franco have believable chemistry, giving the audience characters worth rooting for as the dares become increasingly dangerous. Unfortunately, the screenplay asks for a great deal of suspension of disbelief. As the game grows larger, the technology, organization, and logistics become harder to accept. The ending also resolves everything a little too neatly after raising interesting questions about anonymity, accountability, and online culture. Even so, Nerve remains an entertaining thriller with an idea that was ahead of its time. See more Kaz O @RT17758637 Aug 23 Talk about a great idea with terrible execution, I loved the idea of the movie but became more and more upset and even creeped out when it didn’t reach its potential. With its complete lack of knowledge in anything technological, terrible sub-plots that lead no where, lackluster dialogue, and the main character getting everything she wanted without deserving any of it. However, it is attention grabbing and as a movie it could’ve been way worse. I want to also highlight how most of these characters are underage in the movie but are treated and sexualized like adults which left me more creeped out than anything. See more Read all reviews
