Alex B @AlexBioni 19 hrs ago Dennis OMG I Look So Fat I like the added lore in this one, especially learning more about the family and how everything started. Instead of a basement, we get a creepy loft with a crawl space. The effects are cool too, like the dust falling on the ghost. The closet jump scare was crazy, and I liked the DIY way Dennis sets up cameras around the house. The ghost sheet sequence was great, and we get another wild kitchen jump scare. The ending is also crazy. How does a 1988 home movie look and sound better than the 2006 original? Seriously. The camera quality does not feel authentic to what a camera from the 80s would look like. Even with the added lore, I think the story is lacking. The first two didn't have much of a story either, but it's starting to show. I still enjoyed this one and like it about as much as Part 2. I like this; the 80s VHS vibe and that genius fan trick make it a super creepy standout. What Worked: • The DIY oscillating fan camera is a brilliant way to build massive tension. • The two little girls deliver super unsettling performances I totally bought into. • Diving into the family’s dark backstory gave the series wild lore I really dug. The Friction: • The finale escalates way too fast, losing the slow-burn dread that worked so well. • Some loud noise jumpscares felt cheap and repetitive for me. • A few supernatural effects near the end looked goofy and pulled me out. See more Benjamin W @Code70 Sep 9, 2026 Hey, that was actually pretty solid! The first half of the movie, I like enough, but I wasn’t crazy about. Some effectives moments here and there, but it felt like things made even less sense than usual, in terms of who knew about what when, and what could have easily been solved through surveillance footage. But it was when they actually left the house is when the movie really came together for me. First of all, it’s something the first two neglected to do, and it makes way more sense, and second, it actually gets into what ties the first and second films together, and retroactively makes events that take place in them make more sense. Which is the strongest possible writing a horror prequel can have. I still think the first one’s probably the best, I like the fact that it uses the basic concept simply, whereas this one went kinda extreme with it. But it’s better than no, 2, and all in all, it’s a solid horror sequel/prequel. Too bad I hear this is the last good one as of yet. The practical scares and creative camera setup create several genuinely creepy moments. However, the story feels repetitive, some scares are predictable, and explaining too much removes part of the franchise's original mystery. A solid but not outstanding prequel.
