What to Know

Critics Consensus

Passengers proves Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence work well together -- and that even their chemistry isn't enough to overcome a fatally flawed story.

Passengers takes what could have been an interesting debate about consent and glosses it over with cheesy romance and problematic sex. Go to Full Review

Its science-fiction premise about lovers in space starts with promising questions, but soon approaches a horizon that lacks depth and is lost, from the beginning, in a black hole of clichés. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

David H. @rivrocks 6h The priggish cant of the critics is maddening. In an extreme situation, a selfish decision was made. That it offends you doesn't mean it's a flawed story. Nor does her eventual forgiveness, which only further demonstrates what a remarkable woman this character is. Amazing performances all around. There's a lot to like here. See more Salem K @SH_94 9h Stockholm syndrome in space. The premise could have been interesting but it was just about a creepy man who gaslit and lied to a woman who for some reason forgave him. The one star is because it at least had Michael Sheen in it, the one positive. See more oren C @RT21828991 9h I went into this movie with zero expectations. I was kept interested by the story and the special effects. The movie improved and improved. Great characters and special effects. The characters are pulled by self interest vs the survival of others. This continues until they crash against a wall of self realization. I kept watching and it kept getting better. No spoiler here. It is worth the watch. See more Mark C W @retiredenglishprof 12h What kind of Eden is this? Spoiler Alert: A lonely man, in his desperation, unplugs a beautiful woman from hyper-sleep, condemning her to join him in his 90-year journey through space. She is furious, but then falls in love with him, and together, they create a beautiful Garden of Eden on the spaceship for the rest of the passengers to enjoy when they awake. If Adam and Eve could not sustain Eden, how are we supposed to believe that these two love birds, floating through space on an all-you-can-eat; all-you-can drink; luxury spaceship, could pull it off? This is like asking us to believe that the Puritans really did manage to build a beautiful City on a Hill back in 1642; that Cortez’s invasion of Mexico led to a lovely unification of all the Indian tribes and a Garden of Eden in Central Mexico; that the Afrikaner Voortrekkers brought peace and love to the war-faring Zulus and Xhosas in South Africa; and that Jim Jone’s Kool-Aid in Guyana was not spiked. I don’t buy it. One Star See more Brandon S. @RT60203392 1d Way better than I thought it was going to be! If you like sci-fi then I think you’ll like this film! Great movie. Will watch again See more G. C @Georgianna 1d Great watch! I wanted more. Wanted to see more of their life together on the ship after she decided to stay. See more Read all reviews
