Ramón Sampedro (Javier Bardem) is a Spanish ship mechanic and part-time poet who is left a quadriplegic after a diving accident. This film tells the true story of Sampedro's 30-year battle for the legal right to end his own life. He develops close relationships with his long-term lawyer Julia (Belén Rueda) and his friend Rosa (Lola Dueñas), who tries to convince him that his life is worth living. Despite his situation, Ramon manages to inspire those around him to live life to the fullest.

There’s no question as to what the film strives to achieve. Both a political case for euthanasia and a desperate plea for an emotionally wrought successful awards season. It starts excellently but seems to lose its way in the second half of the film and gets a bit inauthentic. Something is off but it’s still a good film, just not achieving the excellence it strives for. Watched on DVD.

Alejandro Amenobar, the young and talented Spanish director, clearly shows us he is serous film maker. Alongside with my favorite actor in Jav=ier Bardem he was great. This is a movie that has been rewarded with numerous awards, not only is Spain, but throughout the world, A very touching film that delivers the best of Javier Bardem. Also Amenobar has deliver one of my favorite movies of all time in The Others. That's why I decided to give this movie a chance. Is a nice film that captivates me, but not as much as his other work but still manages to be a good movie. I give " The Sea Inside " a C.

The Sea Inside, originally titled Mar Adentro, is a profound meditation on life and the right to choose how to live. It's the story of a man who fights a very long legal battle for the right to end his life, after being left quadriplegic by a diving accident. Despite what it might sound like, The Sea Inside is not a film about death, but about the strength of the human spirit. It is cinema at its most humane. This tale will stay with you long after the final scene. A must see.
