Melissa M @Lisey 4d Kevin Costner, Kevin Kline, Rosanna arquette, John cleese, Jeff goldblum & Brian Dennehy. Definitely good casting choices. It also has Slim Pickens a veteran actor to Western comedies & drama. John cleese usually plays comedic roles. It's rare to see him playing a dramatic part. It definitely shows he has range as an actor. The movie is a little slow starting. And there's a lot of talkity talk. Mal, paden, Emmett, & Jake all have their own stories to tell. It's interesting to see how each of their stories play out. It is cool to see Danny Glover as Mal Johnson a black outlaw. Which is something you don't see in most dramatic western films. It does have some comedic parts. The scene in the film where Paden and his posse use a stampede of cows to attack the bad guys is classic. Don't know if this Western is as good as a John Wayne film. See more Romas M @Romas Feb 10 Greetings from Lithuania. "Silverado" (1985) isn't like the greatest western ever made, and it doesn't even rank among those in my opinion. What it is is a very well made and acted old school western that is entertaining trough its run time. Cast in this movie is outstanding and does bring a lot to the table. I mean Kevin Kline, Scott Glenn, Kevin Costner, Danny Glover, Rosanna Arquette, Brian Dennehy - all these very well known great actors do bring a lot to "Silverado". Story here while nothing original is involving. And cinematography here is simply gorgeous - it reminds of how amazing old western did look back in the day - there is literally no such genre can be seen today. Overall, "Silverado" is a good western that is more entertaining then realistic, but not every western should be "Unforgiven". It has plenty of action, amazing cast and solid story to keep one involved. Terrific music and cinematography makes this a must see for genre fans. See more Joseph C @RT22659987 Nov 20 Covers all of the tropes you wanna see in a Western: Horsemanship, good vs evil, gunslinging, good vs evil, saloons, good vs evil... even a noon time duel on a dusty mainstreet with tumbleweeds and a woman watching by the side. Ensemble cast gives the requested performances, though Dennehy, Cline, and Hunt shine. The cinematography is gorgeous, the music grandiose and appropriate. Released during a span of several excellent Westerns, this one carves a niche in that you can watch it with the entire family (there is some deadly shooting but minimal blood.) It appears Kasdan was anticipating making a sequel; I would like to have seen that. See more DanTheMan 2 @DanTheMan2150AD Sep 8 A whirlwind tour of virtually everything you can do in a Western, Silverado shoots straight, rides tall, and moves quicker than a cowboy galloping off to the chuck wagon. One that could cause many to kick up their spurs in celebration. Everything about this film feels so alive. With writer and director Lawrence Kasdan at the reins, he lovingly pays tribute to a beloved movie genre that had long since passed its heyday, embracing all the familiar clichés instead, serving them up with such exuberance that they still feel fresh. The direction is tightly focused but large in scale, the photography has a warm glow about it, and the action is taught and thoroughly exciting. It hooks you right away with an opening moment of stillness and calm before suddenly being interrupted by a gunfight, and it promises a substantial amount of entertainment to come, which the film thankfully delivers on. The actors switch gears effortlessly, playing their roles with seriousness when necessary, but also relishing the moments that are meant to be fun. Backed by a terrific musical score courtesy of Bruce Broughton, Silverado is an engaging, sweeping, and beautifully shot western that remains a true delight, offering almost everything you could want from the genre, though ultimately leaving you yearning for the sequel that never was.
