After witnessing a Mafia murder, slick saxophone player Joe (Tony Curtis) and his long-suffering buddy, Jerry (Jack Lemmon), improvise a quick plan to escape from Chicago with their lives. Disguising themselves as women, they join an all-female jazz band and hop a train bound for sunny Florida. While Joe pretends to be a millionaire to win the band's sexy singer, Sugar (Marilyn Monroe), Jerry finds himself pursued by a real millionaire (Joe E. Brown) as things heat up and the mobsters close in.

The comedic timing and physical performances are all great, especially from three leads Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, and Marilyn Monroe. The two leading men spend most of the movie in drag, which broke ground for mainstream movies. The movie feels oddly ahead of its time with its LGBT+ ending. The movie is a nice subversion of the "men in drag" old timey trope since over time, both men really learn to love their roleplaying as women as the movie humanizes women with some thoughtful commentary on gender politics of the time. Marilyn Monroe's character is simultaneously hilarious and lovably sincere. The climax is a great mix of fun and tense with the mafia and police showing up at the event causing chaos. The movie thankfully avoids the liar revealed trope. It's a great comedy that subverts many tropes of the time and still holds up today as a pioneer for drag films and queen culture. The charming Tony Curtis’s performance was outstanding, as was his chemistry with the gorgeous Marilyn Monroe. Jack Lemmon’s performance was stellar and perfectly complimentary to Lemmon and Monroe. This is the first Marilyn Monroe movie I’ve ever seen, and I completely understand her appeal. She was sensual, magnetic, and breathtakingly beautiful.
