Annie is looking forward to a Caribbean cruise with her cop boyfriend, Alex, who purchased the tickets to make up for lying about working on the SWAT team. Their trip turns dangerous, however, when an explosion disables the ship's communication system, and it becomes clear that the vessel is under someone else's control. Alex and Annie must fight for survival as they discover that John Geiger, a crazed passenger, is behind the chaos.

Not quite as good as the origonalbut still entertaining. I loved the last 30 minutes when the ship was plowing its way through town taking out everything in its path after passengers realized what was happpening all they could say was "SHIT" And the little dog in the guys convertible. He comes out after the ship comes to rest against the clock tower and the anchor falls on his car. I'm so glad the little dog was O.K.

Setting sail with the exceptionally bold idea of taking everything about the original Speed, slowing everything down and trading a white-knuckle bus ride for a luxury cruise ship, the way that Speed 2: Cruise Control fails seems almost decadent when compared to other films. Willem Dafoe's villain should redeem everything but he's hardly in it because the screenplay's drunk. I blame the writers more than anyone else, so many of the film's problems stem from the script's core inadequacies. Director Jan De Bont was contractually obligated to make a sequel despite not wanting to, yet he still turns a film that at least looks the part with some big explosions and ridiculous stunts, while composer Mark Mancina delivers a score way better than it had any right to be. The complete lack of urgency is what ultimately sinks Speed 2, it leans heavily on large-scale destruction but even these moments feel more excessive than suspenseful, never delivering the thrill promised by its name.
