While accepting an award for her fashion career in Switzerland, accomplished Argentine artist and designer Lina (Isabel Aimé González Sola) is seized by the urge to plunge herself into an icy winter lake without warning. Returning to Buenos Aires after surviving the fall, Lina decides to tell no one of the incident. Left with a paralyzing fear of water and a growing sense of isolation, she finds it impossible to readjust to her former life as a wife, mother, and artist, distancing herself from her husband (Esteban Bigliardi) and once thriving career. Something in her has shifted -- quiet and invisible, it subtly unravels a past she thought she had left behind.

Combined, it’s like reading James Joyce, a cinematic stream of consciousness in which the film and the audience finds Lina, even if she is lost to herself.

The Currents has a lot on its mind. ... It attends closely to storms of intuition and emotion beyond the reach of language, troubles that, triggered by sense can catch us by surprise and remind us of all that remains unreconciled within us.

The Currents is the kind of movie that slowly pulls you in and keeps you thinking even after it ends. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the way the story unfolded without rushing. The performances felt natural, and there were several moments that genuinely caught me by surprise. It may not be for everyone, but if you enjoy thoughtful storytelling and a bit of mystery, it's definitely worth watching.

This is a meticulously made film that asks us the question, what is life all about? What is real, and what really matters? One of the most poignant parts of the film is when Lina complains that a bunch of strangers gave her an award and throws it away, yet she is a estranged from her own mother, her husband, and her daughter as she pursue her career which is really just a place for her to hide as the current of her life continue to push her along without any sense of purpose or direction.
