What to Know

Critics Consensus

Lee Daniels' foray into horror works best when it leans into his melodramatic preoccupations, but it fails to deliver the exorcism goods.

With every over-the-top line of dialogue and tone-deaf gamble, The Deliverance inches closer to becoming a parody of itself. Go to Full Review

Daniels isn't always able to find a steady equilibrium between melodrama and drama. But his cast is compelling enough to ground even the most outlandish moments Go to Full Review

While much of the familiarity felt good, some of it felt stale. The first half was promising, and then the film became a generic demon possession film. Go to Full Review

Whether it’s the fault of how the film was pieced together or the script itself, the narrative misses quite a few beats along the way. Go to Full Review

While the film touches on compelling themes and delivers strong performances from its cast, it falls short in delivering the sustained terror necessary to elevate it into a truly memorable horror experience. Go to Full Review

Keena A Aug 21, 2024 I like it although it was dark & more different than anything I ever seen. See more Fro T @frothizzlereviews Sep 18, 2026 What a piece of garbage. This movie is LAUGHABLY BAD. Lee Daniels is an AWFUL writer and director. I can only hold sympathy for Glenn Close, who had to deliver the infamous line .. "I can smell your nappy p****" The possession scenes are terrible. 2/10 See more lewhat A @LowhaAnderson Sep 15, 2026 Tone deaf Christian propaganda wrapped up in a "horror" film, that came up short in everyway. The acting, the supposed thrill and everything else. Only worth watching if you would like to waste your time. Skip this one See more Charles T @CharlesGaming1000 Sep 5, 2026 This was very good man…. WHY are the good movies always SO DAMN LOW RATED See more Dee T @RT94308544 Sep 3, 2026 The Deliverance (2024): The filmmaker is as unreliable as the narrator. See more Aaryaveer T @RT74616908 Aug 1, 2026 ⭐☆☆☆☆ (Negative 100/10 if that were possible) The Deliverance is the single worst movie I have ever watched. I didn’t waste two hours—it stole them from me. The plot feels like random ideas thrown into a blender, the pacing is painfully slow, and every scene somehow gets worse than the last. The only real horror was realizing there was still another hour left. I’d rather watch paint dry, count grains of sand, read every terms and conditions agreement on the internet, sit in traffic with 2% battery, or stare at a blank wall than ever watch this again. The acting couldn’t save it. The writing couldn’t save it. The scares couldn’t save it. Nothing could. If someone offered me a million dollars to watch The Deliverance again, I’d genuinely hesitate. There are bad movies, terrible movies, and then there’s The Deliverance—a movie so unbelievably awful that it sets a completely new standard for disappointment. I would rather end my life than watch this again See more Read all reviews
