Looking at the cast I thought this'll be a cracker but unfortunately it didn't get going and so it didn't even peter out. This could have been shown in 15 minutes with the same intensity and result. In that sense, it is pretty successful - the acting is pretty tame, there aren’t any crazy plot twists and turns, and it doesn’t end in an absolute shit show. However, without all of those things, the outcome is a very slow film that lacks depth and substance. Nothing much actually happens, it is quite a bore. See more Mitch C @PrimetimeMitch Sep 22 I watched the credits roll on this thinking, "it was okay, nothing special". Then I had a think and realised I got absolutely nothing from it. Just a catalogue of happenings, with weird decision making that seems to exist simply to make the story happen. Jodie Comer is a good actress but she's given very little here to really dig deep. The story seems very vague, not researched enough and for want of a better word - pointless. There's also not a huge amount that's particularly likeable about anybody - downing vodka whilst breastfeeding seemed a little foolish and where I was pleased the two mothers bonded, it didn't really go anywhere - much like the movie in general. My gripe with a lot of Netflix releases recently is they're trying too hard to be overly artistic and profound. Seeing a disaster through different eyes is a good place to begin an idea, as is focusing on a slow burning human struggle as opposed to big effects and chaos. I like character development, I enjoy slow burn and I want meaning. There is little developed in the way of character, and it eventually ends up slowly burning out to a rather mundane conclusion that mirrors the title (again, arty but so what?)
