Christian M @chriss17eu Aug 30, 2026 The personification of the setting. The double is so convincingly characterized that I initially mistake him for Chaplin, creating the impression of a more mature and serious version of his character. Their physical resemblance, reinforced by identical gestures and movements, effectively plays with identity and confusion. Despite this, the protagonist retains his naive and clumsy nature, constantly moving, ignoring spatial boundaries, and interfering with everything around him. While these traits drive the comedy, they do not always create empathy for me. The film also turns the setting into an active character. Chaplin’s fluid movement, interaction with objects, and challenges to physical laws are carefully choreographed, making every stumble and blow part of the narrative. This culminates in his confrontation with the corpulent manager, whose precisely timed physical comedy creates an highly effective comic rhythm. It's all in one setting, but you do get to see his classic mannerisms and humor. See more Petros T @PetrosTserpelis Aug 18, 2024 One of the most enjoyable Chaplin shorts. See more Read all reviews
