Critics Consensus

Cozy as an undemanding beach reach and just as slight, this starry murder mystery leverages its terrific troupe of actors to nostalgic effect.

There’s plenty of money on screen in the handsome production design, but something meagre and perfunctory about the storytelling. Go to Full Review

There is some shock value, but the film goes too far in evading the truth; it nearly forgets to establish an emotional tether between the audience and its suspects. Go to Full Review

Sometimes all you need is a nice, safe, and utterly pleasant piece of cinematic diversion that doesn’t insult your intelligence and is made with sturdy, workmanlike competence. Go to Full Review

Although the screenwriters try to inject some humour, style and swagger into the story, the presence of veteran Hollywood director Chris Columbus at the helm only confirms a sense of franchise-building, rather than delivering something truly special. Go to Full Review

It was crap! … I love an anti-developer narrative, but it was so insubstantial. … I felt embarrassed for these actors, the way they were capering. There are so many good examples of this kind of thing done so much better; just watch one of them instead. Go to Full Review

The mystery, in the first of what will likely be a series of films, isn’t really that interesting. But it draws in fine stage-and-screen actors like David Tennant, Jonathan Pryce, Naomie Ackie and Daniel Mays. Go to Full Review

Wilf F @Zippylist 11h A nice break from some of the slop we get on Netflix nowadays, Thursday Murder Club delivers a very neat and satisfying film that both makes you instantly wish for a sequel while somehow still feeling content with what you’ve just watched. A lot of the audience reviews say that the plot was too far from the book’s, but unfortunately not having read the books yet, I can’t relate. The plot was actually very interesting and the fact that it teaches you not to underestimate someone of a certain age is just a perfect message as they end up solving 3 murders in 2 hours of screen time! Not only that but the comedy was clever and subtle, adding a surprising amount to the overall experience. I would definetely recommend this film. 🍅🍅🍅🍅 See more Jae L @AgniJae 1d i love it. it is a breathe of fresh air to see old people as the main cast. seeing lucifer and crowley was a very good surprise indeed. i love their wardrobe. i love the location. the story was more simple but it is not necessary to be complex to be considered good. i would like to read the book soon. i enjoyed it very much. i want to grow old just like that. in a home for old people with friends. that is a good plan. good plan indeed. See more Jamie @JimJam90 5d An amazing cast let down by an absolutely lackluster story. See more Luis L. @movieluver 6d Entertaining until the end. See more Amelia A Jan 29 Wonderful cast, lovely setting, but the script butchers much of the emotional heart and quite a bit of necessary plot from the original book it hails from. The result is a pleasant but uninspired, oversimplified murder mystery that fails to connect its audience to the characters. A wasted opportunity, seeing how delightful the source material is. See more Oliver S Jan 27 Good. James Bonds are slowly turning into murder mystery detectives, first Daniel Craig and now Pierce Brosnan. Watch out Sean Connery. See more Read all reviews
