Logan D @Greynomad38 17h An adventurous woman decides to trek from Alice Springs to the Indian Ocean, passing thru the desert with only camels and her dog. Needing funding, she accepts an offer from National Geographic to document her journey. Based on a true story from accounts by Robyn Davidson, the film has minimal plot and episodic encounters. Two strengths are the performance by Mia Wasikowska and the natural cinematography featuring the rugged country she travels. Adam Driver appears as a photo journalist and love interest. I thought the latter might have been added for effect but it apparently occurred. As dog is my witness, I had no idea camels had fangs. Based on actual accounts by Robyn Davidson, a bit of trivia is she was in a 3 year relationship with Salmon Rushdie. Brilliant Mia here is avoiding something, running from something in this commitment to walk through the Australian desert alone to the sea. We learn she is probably running from death, after the suicide of her mother when she was a girl. Afraid she might rain death upon herself as did Mom. Doing something to affirm she is staying alive and in charge of at least herself, even this unwise trek of 1,700 miles with pack camels and a dog that didn't make it through. We do not plum her psychological depths, only a confession she is so lonely to photog Adam and misses her Mom terribly. Awesome scenery and aboriginal culture are seen. She wanted to be alone, maybe afraid that more attachments would end in sadness as in her Mom's case. The exercise did keep her alive, and gave her something to write, such as her mag piece and then book. Everyone's path is personal, and this a good tale that many liked. See more Ian W @RT67985106 03/10/2024 A really interesting story becomes a very dull film. Look. I know she walked a long way. Impressive. But this film, less so. A long film (well it felt long) to reflect a long journey. OK, I get it. But it just bored me. I just kept thinking "get on with it ffs", We all know you're going to get to the ocean, there is no jeopardy. I felt the boredom she must have felt. Maybe that was the point.
