Matthew R @RT25784285 5d Perhaps it's a bit sappy, predictable and even cliche, or some might say. But it is so sweet and earnest and enjoyable that I have no complaints. A sweet feel good movie well worth watching. The writing and acting carries the day, especially the little girl. In less capable hands, it would have been a disaster. But the solid writing of her character and the unbelievably skilled acting of the role carries the day. The little girl does not behave or speak like a little girl. Instead she exudes confident authority. The estranged father is the boss of a small crew. At the end of the work day as his employees pass through his office to say goodbye, he is drinking liquor from the bottle. When they meet for the first time the little girl of nine is totally nonplussed, although apparently they have never met before. A social worker is present who similarly does not behave like a real one. All these improbabilities should tie nicely with the religious underpinning of the story. The film beautifully explores themes of redemption and the power of faith, while also tackling tough issues like addiction and grief. I really enjoyed it and definitely think it’s worth the watch.
