I saw it in early high school, right as I was getting exposed to computers, which is probably why it imprinted on me — & on most of Gen X — as less sci-fi than documentary anxiety. It’s not really about hacking; it’s about adults building a machine that takes their worst instincts literally. Young Ferris Bueller, I mean Matthew Broderick, isn’t a mastermind, just a curious kid, so the danger feels accidental instead of villainous. The movie’s quiet terror (which I didn’t realize until a recent rewatch, oh, 40+ years later) is that nobody’s evil… just certain. And once certainty gets wired into a computer it stops blinking. The whole thing lands on that simple truth: sometimes the only winning move is not to play… not because that’s poetic, but because grown-ups with buttons shouldn’t treat the world like a scoreboard. This is a Great 80’s movie, So the story of this movie is a boy who is basically a hacker and can hack into anything he logs in on a scientist’s computer during the cold war and he finds game one he picks is called Global Thermonuclear War he then has to pick places to abolish and the real government can see this and the us is threatening and they are try to save it and he does. The movie has good quality. The storytelling and acting is great. Overall I would give this movie 4.0 stars out of 5 stars. This movie however felt at some points personally let's get to the action. My favorite scene is when he is hacking in to change his grades. I would recommend this movie. See more Robert V @RT47656870 Dec 16 This movie definitely passes the test of time. Wargames explores AI presciently 40 years ago. I enjoyed that there are multiple characters that have autistic characteristics portrayed in a positive light. It kept me on the edge of my seat, wanting more. It had enough comedy mixed with high stakes situations and a plausible premise. See more Read all reviews
