See more JC D @RT06007931 6 days ago What I liked about Wasteman is that it understands an unpleasant truth about redemption: getting a second chance is one thing; surviving long enough to use it is another. Taylor gets a chance to change his fate, but prison has its own rules and, naturally, the law is not always the authority with the most power. He is trying to stay clean, avoid trouble and obey, while knowing that refusing orders from stronger inmates can make him a target. Follow the rules and you risk becoming part of the world you want to escape. Resist them and you may lose your chance to escape it. David Jonsson and Tom Blyth are perfectly cast. Their characters are almost opposites: one is trying to get out; the other knows how to rule the world inside. Between them is a constant sense of danger. You never know whether the next encounter will bring friendship, betrayal or violence. That uncertainty is what makes the film work. See more TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch Aug 20, 2026 Wasteman is a movie I genuinely wanted to enjoy, especially because I was interested in seeing the actor who is set to become the new Black Panther. Unfortunately, I struggled to stay invested. The biggest problem was the screenplay. It felt extremely drawn out and overloaded with dialogue, while the constant back-and-forth made the story difficult to follow. Instead of creating momentum, the film seemed to wander without a clear direction. I kept waiting for the story to connect, but it never really happened. The acting also felt underwhelming. I didn’t find many performances convincing enough to pull me into the story, and I was especially disappointed by the actor playing the future Black Panther. It’s difficult to tell whether his performance was limited by his acting ability or by a screenplay that gave him very little to work with. Ultimately, Wasteman felt like a missed opportunity.
