Biography:

Robin, with his wife Laura (laura@reelingreviews.com), began reviewing films on a local cable access station in 1991. The show, Reeling, has since expanded into a number of major access stations, including Boston's BNN network. We have also established a film review column for a local chain newspaper in our home town of Malden MA. We are contributing reviewers on a number of entertainment sites. Our goal is to move our TV program into the commercial realm and continue to improve the quality and content of our written review to help promote a greater understanding of the movie media.

Islands (2025) 93% B EDIT “https://www.reelingreviews.com/reviews/islands/” – Reeling Reviews Feb 4, 2026 Full Review Whistle (2025) 62% C EDIT “Those nostalgic for teen horror movies from 50 years ago will likely enjoy "Whistle," but not me.” – Reeling Reviews Feb 4, 2026 Full Review Magellan (2025) 86% B+ EDIT “We get a concise depiction of the expedition, with its violence – on several levels – generally shown in aftermath, like the battle that done him in.” – Reeling Reviews Feb 4, 2026 Full Review Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die (2025) 93% B- EDIT “The statement the filmmakers make about the current and growing intrusion of AI on all of our lives – like it or not – is timely and called for. ” – Reeling Reviews Feb 4, 2026 Full Review Hard-Boiled (1992) 92% B+ EDIT “It is pleasure to see the seminal works of John Woo brought back and restored in awesome 4K release.” – Reeling Reviews Jan 20, 2026 Full Review Arco (2025) 92% B+ EDIT “It has appeal for all ages, except for the very young, making this a good family movie, so break out the popcorn and enjoy.” – Reeling Reviews Jan 20, 2026 Full Review H Is for Hawk (2025) 80% B EDIT “I am not sure that "H is for Hawk" will inspire legions to take on the "sport" but it has been around for thousands of years.” – Reeling Reviews Jan 20, 2026 Full Review The Secret Agent (2025) 98% B- EDIT “The "thriller" aspect with Marcelo on the lam is a good basis for his story. The plethora of characters and plot threads tends to confuse things more than resolve them.” – Reeling Reviews Jan 17, 2026 Full Review Song Sung Blue (2025) 78% B+ EDIT “There is great chemistry between Hugh and Kate and it comes through as you see an actual family coping with both the good and the bad in life.” – Reeling Reviews Jan 17, 2026 Full Review Is This Thing On? (2025) 86% B EDIT “It is about individual accomplishment but, more, about rekindling a lost relationship.” – Reeling Reviews Jan 17, 2026 Full Review Dust Bunny (2025) 85% B+ EDIT “This makes "Dust Bunny" a film for kids – yeah, they may have dreams but in a good way – and adults, too. As a matter of fact, the adults may like it more.” – Reeling Reviews Jan 17, 2026 Full Review The Plague (2025) 97% B EDIT “It is a good study of kids and group behavior. It is also a study of kindness...” – Reeling Reviews Jan 17, 2026 Full Review Dead Man's Wire (2025) 91% B EDIT “Bill Skarsgard does a first rate job in giving depth to a very troubled young man pushed to the brink by others’ greed.” – Reeling Reviews Jan 17, 2026 Full Review The Testament of Ann Lee (2025) 87% B+ EDIT “I learned quite a bit about Ann Lee and the Shaker religion while watching "The Testament," making me want to verify her story and its chronology – both of which the filmmakers follow faithfully.” – Reeling Reviews Jan 17, 2026 Full Review The Choral (2025) 67% B+ EDIT “The getting to the big performance is the real meat of the story as many of the characters are given dimension and purpose with Fiennes first among equals.” – Reeling Reviews Jan 17, 2026 Full Review OBEX (2025) 96% B+ EDIT “[Albert} Birney’s use of black and white photography adds to the 80s nostalgia carefully crafted here, He also makes me glad that I never caught the gaming bug.” – Reeling Reviews Jan 17, 2026 Full Review SHEEPDOG (2025) 77% B+ EDIT “Multi-hat wearing Grayhm does well in each of his roles, directing his cast, and himself, with assurance.” – Reeling Reviews Jan 16, 2026 Full Review Home (2008) 93% B+ EDIT “Moving from the richly filled, quiet life of Marthe and her clan to the hell that the road brings, the story... has a unique arc and is a true family tragedy.” – Reeling Reviews Mar 29, 2024 Full Review Monster (2023) 97% B+ EDIT “The performances by all, including the non-actor two boys, are effective with each giving their piece to the puzzle of the story. BTW, there is no “monster” except for the ones the viewer’s mind imagines.” – Reeling Reviews Dec 20, 2023 Full Review The Boy and the Heron (2023) 96% B EDIT “It is not the most original of Miyazaki’s films but it is like putting on a warm and comfy sweater on a cold winter’s day – it makes you feel good.” – Reeling Reviews Dec 20, 2023 Full Review Menus-Plaisirs Les Troisgros (2023) 100% B+ EDIT “Be aware that director Wiseman likes to tell his story in a gentle, flowing way and, like “Les Troisgros,” they are long and thorough.” – Reeling Reviews Dec 20, 2023 Full Review Leo (2023) 84% B EDIT “A clever animation that talks honestly about kids and growing up – and still entertain the older crowd – is a positive thing in this negative world. I hope the spirit of “Leo” works well into the holidays and it just might.” – Reeling Reviews Nov 22, 2023 Full Review What Happens Later (2023) 51% d EDIT “the behavior of the two “adults” does not make much sense as they banter, complain, criticize and emote about their past and present lives. I should care about the characters but I do not – at all.” – Reeling Reviews Nov 9, 2023 Full Review Beyond Utopia (2023) 100% A- EDIT “The combination of personal stories and a well-done documentary on the oppressive regime are a striking pairing.” – Reeling Reviews Nov 9, 2023 Full Review Rustin (2023) 83% B EDIT “The draw for “Rustin,” aside from the depiction of an incredible moment in American history, is the showcase performance by Colman Domingo.” – Reeling Reviews Nov 9, 2023 Full Review
