Tomatometer-approved critic
Biography:

My name is Sean Chandler and I've always loved to talk movies! For years I was the guy commenting on other people's movie reviews and franchise rankings. Not just because I had my own opinions, but because I wanted to talk movies with other people. I've always thought that movies matter, and I love to hear other people share their experiences with films, whether I agree with them or not. Every week I post: movie reviews, movie rankings, top-10 lists.

Mexicali (2026) B EDIT “A familiar cartel revenge story elevated by Bren Foster’s presence and solid fight work. Not reinventing the genre, but a well-made, satisfying pick for action fans.” – Sean Chandler Talks About Apr 1, 2026 Full Review The Forbidden City (2025) 89% B+ EDIT “Refreshing blend of a Hong Kong martial arts film with an Italian mob movie, but instead of merging the genres it simply lets them both co-exist in an interesting way.” – Sean Chandler Talks About Apr 1, 2026 Full Review Basic (2026) 100% B EDIT “A charming dramedy about female friendships, relationships, and the ways our assumptions can hurt us.” – Sean Chandler Talks About Apr 1, 2026 Full Review Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice (2026) 78% B EDIT “Two Vince Vaughns in a time-travel action comedy? Sign me up!” – Sean Chandler Talks About Apr 1, 2026 Full Review Pretty Lethal (2026) 57% B EDIT “The setup may be familiar, but watching these ballerinas use their skills and flexibility to destroy mobsters put a huge grin on my face.” – Sean Chandler Talks About Apr 1, 2026 Full Review Ready or Not 2: Here I Come (2026) 74% B- EDIT “While it plays like a remix of the original, the individual scenes, characters, kills, and jokes are just as fun as the first time.” – Sean Chandler Talks About Apr 1, 2026 Full Review They Will Kill You (2026) 63% A- EDIT “A wildly entertaining mix of Ready or Not’s plot, Kill Bill’s action, and Evil Dead 2 Sam Raimi vibes.” – Sean Chandler Talks About Apr 1, 2026 Full Review Project Hail Mary (2026) 94% A EDIT “A great piece of science fiction that neither dumbs down the material nor feels embarrassed to be entertaining.” – Sean Chandler Talks About Apr 1, 2026 Full Review Forbidden Fruits (2026) 72% C+ EDIT “While there’s plenty of style (and I’m sure the movie will have a committed cult audience), I ultimately didn’t think the character motivations, logic, or ending worked.” – Sean Chandler Talks About Apr 1, 2026 Full Review The Saviors (2026) 55% B- EDIT “While the ending leaves a bit to be desired, the movie delivers just enough paranoia, curiosity, and intrigue to keep you invested.” – Sean Chandler Talks About Mar 31, 2026 Full Review The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (2026) 42% B EDIT “Super Mario Galaxy once again delivers an immersive and charming Mario experience while treating story and storytelling as an afterthought.” – Sean Chandler Talks About Mar 31, 2026 Full Review Power Ballad (2026) 96% B EDIT “Power Ballad is a charming music-based comedy starring Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas that blends humor with a story about chasing dreams, self-doubt, and the power of someone believing in you. Rudd is effortlessly amusing and impossible not to root for.” – Sean Chandler Talks About Mar 16, 2026 Full Review Send Help (2026) 93% A- EDIT “A refreshing thriller with two great lead performances, plenty of fun Raimi-isms, and a plot that kept me guessing.” – Sean Chandler Talks About Feb 3, 2026 Full Review Mercy (2026) 25% C+ EDIT “The central premise is intriguing, but the movie never finds the right balance between screen-life and Chris Pratt blockbuster vehicle.” – Sean Chandler Talks About Feb 3, 2026 Full Review Tapawingo (2023) 80% B- EDIT “Jon Heder's spiritual sequel to Napoleon Dynamite. It may not be as fresh, but there's plenty of quirky fun to be had.” – Sean Chandler Talks About Feb 3, 2026 Full Review The Rip (2026) 79% B EDIT “The Rip is a dependable cop thriller, anchored by a strong cast and just enough twists to keep things interesting.” – Sean Chandler Talks About Jan 23, 2026 Full Review Primate (2025) 78% B- EDIT “Primate is an effective-enough "animal-goes-wild" horror thriller. There are a few great sequences and kills, but the overall story dynamics are a bit too linear.” – Sean Chandler Talks About Jan 9, 2026 Full Review Thieves Highway (2025) B EDIT “A good old-fashioned Western (cattle thieves, deputized citizens, slugfests) in a modern context. Eckhart anchors the film with a world-weary, classic sense of morality.” – Sean Chandler Talks About Jan 9, 2026 Full Review Five Nights at Freddy's 2 (2025) 16% C EDIT “A big step in the wrong direction from the first film. It feels like it exists simply for fans to go Easter egg hunting, offering little for anyone looking for more than that.” – Sean Chandler Talks About Dec 9, 2025 Full Review The Perfect Gamble (2025) B- EDIT “A small-scale, personal casino drama that reminded me of a lot of indie films from 25 years ago. It was refreshing to see David Arquette in a more serious role.” – Sean Chandler Talks About Dec 9, 2025 Full Review Wildcat (2025) 57% B EDIT “A better than average direct to video action thriller due to the world building and character work.” – Sean Chandler Talks About Nov 27, 2025 Full Review Wicked: For Good (2025) 66% B- EDIT “The second trip to Oz is a lot messier than the first, but ultimately the cast and emotional moments lift the material just enough to save the film. The individual scenes can be spellbinding, but the movie has lost much of its magic.” – Sean Chandler Talks About Nov 20, 2025 Full Review The Running Man (2025) 61% B+ EDIT “While it may lack Edgar Wright's usual directorial flourishes, it's still a fun and thoughtful popcorn film.” – Sean Chandler Talks About Nov 14, 2025 Full Review Now You See Me: Now You Don't (2025) 60% C+ EDIT “A couple of exciting sequences can't save this movie from feeling too artificial and contrived. The twists and tricks seem designed to fool the audience rather than make sense within the world of the film. ” – Sean Chandler Talks About Nov 14, 2025 Full Review Trap House (2025) 50% B- EDIT “It may not be calibrated to perfection, but by putting the kids at the center of the action, it does provide a nice spin on a familiar genre.” – Sean Chandler Talks About Nov 14, 2025 Full Review
