At a Chicago university, a research team that includes brilliant Eddie Kasalivich (Keanu Reeves) experiences a breakthrough: a stable form of fusion that may lead to a waste-free energy source. However, Dr. Paul Shannon (Morgan Freeman) has ties to a private company that wants to exploit the technology, so Kasalivich and Dr. Lily Sinclair (Rachel Weisz) are framed for murder, and the fusion device is stolen. On the run from the FBI, they must recover the technology and exonerate themselves.

Critics Consensus

Ironic given the scientific breakthrough at the story's core, Chain Reaction is a man-on-the-run thriller that mostly sticks to generic formula.

It's not a bad film in individual moments and in the energy of itsperformances, but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Go to Full Review

[Chain Reaction] has better acting, better writing, more spectacular chase sequences and more genuine drama than all of this summer's blockbusters. Go to Full Review

Blake- N @RT32589154 8h I went into this film hoping for a solid thriller, but it quickly fell apart. The plot feels like a messy patchwork of ideas that never quite connect, relying heavily on clichés and convenient twists. The pacing drags in some spots and then rushes through moments that should have mattered more. Even with a decent cast, the performances feel flat, likely due to weak dialogue and lackluster direction. The science angle could have been interesting, but it’s handled in a way that feels shallow and unconvincing. Overall, it’s a forgettable movie that wastes its potential, Just a Solid 2/10.
