Nick P. @NickPick Jul 27 Captain Nemo and the Underwater City is more than just a classic fantasy film to me—it’s a cornerstone of my childhood and one of the earliest films that shaped my imagination. I grew up watching this movie on VHS at my father’s apartment in Sweden. It was a favorite of mine, not just for the story, but for how beautifully it brought the underwater world to life. The design of the sea, the city, and the feeling of adventure it inspired left a deep impression on me. Even as a child, I found the underwater scenes mesmerizing—so detailed and dreamlike they felt real. Watching this movie made me fall in love with the ocean. It gave me a sense of wonder and curiosity, but also respect for its mystery and power. It’s one of the reasons I’ve always dreamed of becoming a diver. That mix of fascination and fear—wanting to explore, yet knowing how vast and unknown the sea is—was first planted in me by this film. The film may not have a high critic rating, but to me, it represents something personal and timeless. It’s a reminder of my early love for storytelling, exploration, and the deep blue unknown. It’s not just a movie—it’s a memory. See more 03/19/2021 I probably would have loved this film when I was 6...which I was in 1970. However, I didn't see it then. I saw it as an adult. This movie from the beginning is written by, directed and produced by and for anyone under the age of 9. Even then, Captain Nemo and the Underwater City is stagnant, the effects are piss poor. The only aspect about this movie that is tollerable are the sets, props and costumes. It looks like it was designed by Liberace himself. The sets and costumes are BRIGHT and gaudy. I was only ever able to watch it on the chance it may pop up on British TV,but now after buying it through Amazon I can watch whenever I wish. It's one of those movies that I loved growing up and after watching it again I still do. It's an old family movie that I've always thought was done well. Put simply "innocent family fun" I just hope you enjoy it as much as I do. See more 10/06/2013 Robert Ryan plays the titular Jules Verne character. Chuck Connors plays a US Senator (???) who is among a group of survivors from a sinking ship rescued by Captain Nemo and his submarine crew. They're then taken to Nemo's underwater city, where the he's plotting to destroy the surface world. It's a pretty dull script, but the production design and special effects are enough to carry the film and make it worth watching. See more 10/05/2013 Classic, loved it!
