Animated elephant Horton (Jim Carrey) finds a speck of dust floating in the Jungle of Nool. Upon investigation of the speck, Horton discovers the tiny city of Who-ville and its residents, the Whos, which he can hear but cannot see. Horton forms a friendship with the mayor of Who-ville, Ned McDodd (Steve Carell), and promises to transport Who-ville to safety. However, Horton encounters opposition from his jungle neighbors, who don't want to believe in the existence of Who-ville.

The sad thing is that this Horton doesn't stick by its central message -- that every voice counts -- the way Horton sticks to the Whos. It pretends to, but the sincerity is just too scary to commit to fully.

Jim Carrey has never sounded more like Jim Carrey, which means the pudgy elephant seems animated around the voice talent of the wild comedian instead of around a fresh design.

I grew up on this movie, it came out when I was 2. My mom had to buy not just one but FOUR copies of the DVD I wore it out playing it so often. safe to say Horton is my comfort from childhood

Synopsis
