This feature-length documentary chronicles the long-awaited return of pop royalty, BTS. From acclaimed director Bao Nguyen (The Stringer, The Greatest Night in Pop) and renowned producers, This Machine (Martha, Karol G) and HYBE, the film offers unprecedented access, following BTS as they come back together to begin a reunion set to be etched in pop culture history, while reflecting on the journey that transformed seven Korean members into global icons. Since their debut in 2013, BTS built one of the most devoted fan communities in the world. After completing South Korea's mandatory military service, the seven members reunite in Los Angeles to make music together, returning to a shared creative space shaped by time apart and personal change. As millions of fans await the comeback of the decade, BTS confronts quieter questions: how to begin again, how to honor the past without being bound by it, and how to move forward together. Through moments of doubt, laughter, and rediscovery, they create new music that reflects who they are now--culminating in what will become a landmark album of its time. Intimate, emotional, and often joyful, BTS: THE RETURN is a story only BTS can tell: a portrait of resilience, brotherhood, and reinvention.

It gets close to some subversive and thought-provoking stuff but shies away... Still, if you like process, you see them in the recording studio. Go to Full Review

In Bao Nguyen’s documentary, BTS: THE RETURN, the director doesn’t present a sanitized version of their story. Instead, viewers are privy to meetings with management, where the members’ artistry doesn’t always align with the business model’s bottom line. Go to Full Review

This is, in short, as polished as you would expect of a work about a pop behemoth, a companion piece to their new album that’s less a revelatory look at the meaning of their time away than a sentimental welcome back for the group and its fans. Go to Full Review

An intimate look at BTS's highly anticipated return and creation of their new album. One of the best parts is the "fly-on-the-wall" feel throughout the documentary, and it doesn't have the traditional sit-down interview style. Go to Full Review

Drake S. @TohoGojibetterthanLegendaryGoji 4d I'd say this is very good, really covers their progress and thoughts while creating their returning album making sure people don't say stuff like "oh they're past their prime" and more See more Kirsty L @RT42768480 5d The movie opens with 7 guys, seemingly carefree, playing in the beach, filming themselves and talking to their fans. It takes a minute before you realise these are 7 of the most famous men in the world right now. We then get a fascinating look inside the making of their comeback album, and their day to day lives while making it. It’s intimate, and special, and doesn’t put any masks over the realities of making a record with so much pressure behind them. The shots are cinematic, yet personal with the help of handheld footage shot by the guys themselves. It’s a really special documentary that I feel we will come to look back on as time goes by, and their band reaches new heights. It pairs perfectly with the live concert on Netflix, where they performed the songs they made during the documentary. Will absolutely be rewatching both. See more Prizz N @RT17841815 5d I really love bts documentary Its feel so nostalgic as a old army Must watch if u like arirang album See more Bhumika T @RT73893458 5d Amazing documentary and shows actual behind the scenes and the thought process behind the making of the album... It shows making an album isn't as easy as it looks... A must watch fr.. See more Candace S @RT61471348 Mar 31 What does it mean for the biggest group in the world to return after four years? That is the question at the center of this film. I was surprised by how moved I was watching this. It wasn’t just about their process of reuniting and creating their album ARIRANG, but it touched on so many relatable topics like what it means to get older, how relationships change and how you want to move through the world. I found myself reflecting on my own life as a result. It showcases their work in the studio, and pressure of their current state; having been at the top before completing mandatory military service, and not knowing whether the world has moved on. It shows the delicate balance of wanting to please your fanbase while contemplating what feels right as artists who have evolved. It was shot beautifully, and felt intimate, truthful and, at times, poignant. It shows the inner workings of a group that seems larger than life, but is really just, as RM says, seven normal boys from Korea. See more Yva L @RT61374427 Mar 27 1 of 2 (i have a lot to say) Since their debut, BTS have shown us time and time again that they are here—for themselves, for their country, and most importantly, for their fans, ARMY. After a few years of hiatus, their comeback feels massive, especially with the release of their new album *ARIRANG*. The album draws from the roots of Korean music, inspired by one of the earliest Korean songs ever recorded on American soil, which adds a deep cultural weight to this era. It’s not just music—it’s history, identity, and pride woven together. Watching the documentary made everything even more emotional. We all know that creating an album isn’t easy, but seeing the process firsthand really hit differently. We got to witness the seriousness, the pressure, the pain, and the difficult, sometimes uncertain decisions they had to make. It showed how much communication matters—how they had to constantly check in with each other to ensure no one’s voice was overlooked. See more Read all reviews
