Chris S @Janomi 3d Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is excellent visually, even when the story is not as strong as the first film. The black-and-white comic-book noir look remains striking, with sharp shadows, bursts of color, brutal violence, and a world that still feels rotten and stylized. Eva Green is the best thing in the sequel as Ava Lord. She is seductive, manipulative, dangerous, and completely toxic, and Green plays her with the larger-than-life energy the material needs. Mickey Rourke also remains one of the strongest pieces of this world, giving Marv the same brute-force loyalty and tragic simplicity. The pulpy noir attitude still works, with crooked cops, doomed men, dangerous women, revenge, betrayal, and blood. Unfortunately for me this was definitely a step down from the first film. Yes it had the same beautiful cinematography and some of the same cast but that’s were the similarities end with the sequel. The story is no where as engaging and even the acting from the better cast felt phoned in. Ultimately this isn’t a must watch as its predecessor.
