See more Unique C. @uniquecliches Feb 18 It’s a great movie, a coming-of-age story that delves into the hardships of homosexuality and rural life. A rough farmer’s son, trying to fulfill his father’s wishes and demands on their failing farm, struggles with his sexuality and frequently drinks. His life takes a turn when a handsome Romanian traveler arrives to help him on the farm and teaches him about kindness and tenderness. The characters are likable and relatively well developed. The farmer’s son is undoubtedly the most well-developed character, and he undergoes significant growth throughout the story. Josh O’Connor delivers a great performance. The other characters are less developed, and perhaps the Romanian farm helper could benefit from more development. Alec Secăreanu is captivating and truly embodies tenderness, but he is not given a tremendous amount to work with. While this heartwarming story with likable characters is certainly enjoyable, one would hope for a more developed romantic relationship, rather than relying solely on subtle hints. It would be disheartening to think that their relationship won’t progress to the point where they say I love you to each other . There seems to be a deliberate decision to portray their story in a somewhat “frugal” manner. Initially, this serves as a strength, reflecting their acceptance of their love. However, it ultimately becomes a weakness for the movie, as their love remains almost a second-class love- hidden behind walls. Even the ending is a bit too subtle and frugal… There’s no guarantee that their hardships will end. And we won’t know what will happen. See more Roger L @inkajoo Feb 15 It's a great gay film with a happy ending, a thing in frustratingly short supply. It is a deceptively dreary film about finding joy where you are. The sex scenes are so lengthy as to border on fetishized, and the dramatic stakes are low except for the very end, but these are stylistic choices. The leads both have a ton of charm - not to forget Nan! - and the cinematography is well done. It is extremely enjoyable to watch the relationship blossom. To state the only story flaw that I found would spoil the ending. Required viewing for everybody. See more Alex H @ComradeAlex Feb 6 I don't know what I was expecting... but it wasn't something so simple yet simultaneously so profound. It was so raw, and so real. Sometimes all it takes is someone to love to change you and your life. John Saxby was an incredibly relatable character. And Gheorghe... ugh, what a sweetheart. Both of the lead actors were spectacular. The shots of the environment and the farm animals felt equally as important and beautiful as everything else. I had no idea this film even existed until it was recommended to me just yesterday. Makes me wonder what kind of queer gems are out there that I don't even know about.
