In search of a fresh start, divorcee Sarah (Elisabeth Shue) and her daughter, Elissa (Max Thieriot), find their dream house in a small town. But when startling, unexplainable events begin, the pair learn that a chilling secret holds the town in its grip. Years earlier a girl killed her parents and disappeared, leaving a brother, Ryan (Max Thieriot), as the sole survivor. Elissa begins a relationship with Ryan, and the closer they get, the deeper they're all pulled into a dangerous mystery.

Lawrence is fine as the solo-parented teen and Thieriot does a mean Tony Perkins (circa Pretty Poison, but on downers), but the sheer tedium of the storyline means you never really care about any of them.

Many movies display what happens when parents aren't present for their kids' lives, but few do so well as this mystery film. It's a story of how a young man tries to cover up his family's past evils. The acting could have been better, but the story is brilliant.

This movie with a number of themes deserves a much better rating that people have given it. It's psychological horror more than anything, and some people seem to not understand that. I recommend seeing it.
