VITALII H @freakynickison May 7 It goes without saying that it’s not one of the best movies of all time. Disneyish teenage early 2k comedy with predictable and cringy plot and writing that doesn’t stand out by any means. But, as a person who just watched it for the very first time I will give this movie credit for bringing up something that’s still relevant or something that was ahead of it’s time back then. I talk about the subliminal messages and brainwashing through music that makes ppl to over consume stuff. That’s something that we need to get into a bit more in my opinion. Because one day they force us to buy stuff and the next day they tell us what to do. But this movie shows the comedy angle of it all and isn’t supposed to be taken seriously but they were cooking. The style is colorful, the soundtrack is catchy, and the cast clearly gives it energy, but the story feels uneven and often too silly to really land. Some of the jokes work, and the movie has a quirky charm, but overall it is more memorable for its concept than for its execution. I think it had potential to be something better, yet it stays stuck in the middle with a lot of missed opportunities. I would give it a 4/10. Soon it will be 25 years since this movie released but you’re not missing a lot, even for a chick flick. Aspects of it aged better than expected with product placement and how subliminal messaging/marketing and advertising works pre-social media.
