An elegantly idiotic sci-fi thriller that initially feels as though it might have derived from Philip K Dick -- but lacks the master's lysergic idiosyncracy. Go to Full Review

TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch 2d Jumper is a sci-fi film that was judged far too harshly, and a lot of that had to do with Hayden Christensen being stuck under the shadow of Star Wars. People were not fully open to seeing him in something different, which hurt the film more than it should have. No, the screenplay is not perfect, and there are definitely flaws in the writing, pacing, and world-building that keep it from becoming the great franchise starter it could have been. But at the same time, the movie is still genuinely fun. The jumping concept is creative, the action moves quickly, and the constant shift from place to place keeps the energy alive. Even when the story feels underdeveloped, it still has enough style and momentum to stay entertaining. You can clearly see the bigger potential hiding underneath it all, and that is what makes it frustrating but still enjoyable. Overall, Jumper is a flawed but underrated film that deserved more credit and probably deserved a sequel too. See more Lorelai S @IReviewStuff Mar 14 The movie is okay and the concept is interesting. However, the main character is absolutely insufferable. He is also a pathological liar 😀 At the beginning, it’s easy to feel bad for him considering his unfortunate situation, but at some point you stop feeling bad for him and wish he would tell the truth for once, especially to the girl he is supposed to love. On a positive note, the British guy is a funny and entertaining character. I wish we saw more of him. The lore is interesting, but I feel like it’s not explained enough and there is too much focus on the romance. See more Aryaman S @AryamanS Mar 12 Jumper taps into a familiar male fantasy: the idea of unrestricted freedom and the power of teleportation placed in the hands of a lone wolf protagonist navigating the world on his own terms. The film presents teleportation in a grounded way by also acknowledging the tangible effects such power would have on the real world around him, something that is rarely found in most science fiction films or comic book films about superpowered people ala Marvel and DC. Hayden Christensen’s performance is crucial in grounding this story. His presence carries the quiet confidence and restlessness that sell the premise for male viewers whilst providing an emotional core. Doug Liman's direction is expectedly thrilling, the visual effects are surprisingly good and David S. Goyer's screenplay tells a satisfying story within 88 minutes. The score by the lauded composer, John Powell is also noteworthy. See more Frans B @FransB Mar 4 Brilliant! Highly entertaining. In the "professional opinion" perhaps not technically "good", but who cares? Great cast and they all shine in character. Writing needs attention perhaps. Good cinematography and visually stunning. Lots of action, absurdness, drama, emotion, intrigue and nagging "what if ...?" feeling 😜 Does not have to make sense to be entertaining hey? See more Braden S @Braden066 Feb 25 Fun watch; I liked the VFX on this film (especially the fights and the Jumping) See more David C @Dave79 Jan 26 Fantastic and fun movie. Wish we got more of it.
