The music score, by Daniele Luppi, is particularly fine while the cinematography, by Pawel Pogorzelski, is constantly impressive as the backstreets of New Orleans are transformed into a kind of garish hell on earth.

Amirpour’s penchant for drifting, meandering stories is enticing here, aided by her use of supernatural elements and characters with strong personalities. And its Day-Glo aesthetic may be gaudy, but it is also vivid, hypnotic and unlike anything else.

It’s all nonsense, obviously, but fun nonsense. Mona Lisa And The Blood Moon is made to be watched while scoffing crunchy snack foods and beer, if only because a lot of chips and beer go down on screen between bouts of telekinetic mayhem.

It's not a bad movie, but it has a lot of flaws. The directing (especially in the strip club scenes), cinematography and performances (especially that of Hudson) are great, but the film suffers a lot because of the underdeveloped story and a lack of satisfying conclusion. I'm not a big fan of long movies, but additional 20 minutes and perhaps some backstories for the main characters would improve this film a lot. Some dialogues also felt quite stiff and unnatural.

Watched it on a lark on Tubi and glad I did! It's a lot of fun with excellent casting, direction, acting and storyline. And, Kate Hudson was perfect for her part.

Excellent film! Not formula-driven in the least. Excellent acting, particularly by Kate Hudson. Best thing I have seen her in, in a long time. All the parts were well acted. Music was compelling and moved the film along nicely. I liked that early impressions of some characters proved to be incorrect, in a very uplifting manner. Loved the ending of the film!

Ana Lily Amirpour is the master of gritty, sweet, smart movies that are not quite horror. Mona And The Blood Moon as well as A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night didn't end and I could watch them longer. Love these films.
